Maybelline New York has announced the extension of Brave Talk. It now entails an online, five-step training programme to empower youngsters to hold essential mental health conversations with their close ones.
Maybelline New York has expanded its Brave Talk programme. It is a free global mental health training programme developed in collaboration with The Jed Foundation (JED). Maybelline first launched Brave Talk in 2022, on college campuses. It is now available as an online and interactive platform, available anytime, anywhere.
This updated training is all set to further enhance Maybelline’s Brave Together mental health programme. A programme that aims to provide access to one-to-one support for anxiety and depression.
The Inception of Brave Talk Programme
Maybelline came up with Brave Talk in partnership with JED. It is a leading nonprofit that aims to protect emotional health. It further helps prevent suicides, especially in teens and young adults in the US. As per a study in the states, nearly 60% of college students said they got support from a friend in times of mental health distress. This free 90-minute, expert-developed training was delivered by college staff to students. They taught students real-life skills that could help them help struggling friends and further connect them to proper care.
The Five Easy-to-Remember B.R.A.V.E. steps
Through this programme, users can learn to initiate conversations with loved ones and provide them with support. They can further lead them to care in nearly 10 minutes. All they will need is the five easy-to-remember B.R.A.V.E. steps of Brave Talk. The animated format offers visually stimulating storytelling. This makes complex subject matters, such as mental health accessible, enjoyable, and engaging, especially for Gen Z.
During the Brave Talk training, users follow three Gen-Z characters to aid a troubled friend. Throughout the training, the users will get useful tools and information and then they can decide how they will approach a situation.
The five letters of the word B.R.A.V.E. represent the different steps one must take to support a struggling friend. These are:
- Be Present
- Right Setting
- Ask Questions
- Validate Feelings
- Encourage Action
