Streax Professional recently crowned Pushkar Sen as the Streax Professional Times Hairstyle Icon 2023. Professional Beauty India’s Gauri D. interacted with Mr Sen about his success. Here’s what he said:
Congratulations on your big win. How did you prepare for this journey that led to success?
First of all, I want to thank Streax Professional for giving me this opportunity and platform. I have been in the industry for around 20 years now. Over the years, I’ve learned a lot from my mentors and teachers. While preparing for Streax Professional Times Hairstyle Icon 2023, we were guided by Vipul Chudasama, Joakim Roos, Yolly Ten Koppel and Savio John Pereira. Years of learning, hard work and Streax Professional’s support helped me present myself more confidently and ultimately, win the competition.
As you begin your journey with Streax Professional, what are your expectations from this opportunity?
I am very happy and thankful to Streax Professional for giving me this exposure to the hair styling world. It’s an opportunity to learn from the best in the industry. This win means a lot to me. I am here to learn more about the latest techniques, the right use of products and smarter ways of hair styling. It’s an opportunity to learn from the best in the industry. This win means a lot to me. I represent my hometown and my students on a bigger level, and as a result, this experience means a lot to me.
I would also request the Streax Professional team to organize more such events. They can help develop talents and lead them to get the recognition they deserve.
Could you tell us more about the story of your journey to become a hairstylist?
I belong to the barber community. It is our family business, so obviously my parents always wanted me to follow the tradition. In my heart, I knew that whatever career I chose I would give my best. Eventually, hairdressing became my passion, and I joined a local institute. I learned new cuts, colouring, and styling techniques. In the initial years, I represented my hometown and won many awards. I went on to represent India on international platforms too. I went to Singapore to gain knowledge in haircutting, dressing and styling to keep up with the latest industry trends. So far, I have met many hair experts and stylists. I’m lucky to have had an opportunity to learn new things under their mentorship.
What inspires and challenges you while working in this vast industry?
When I am recognised for my work, and when people choose to get a haircut from me; It inspires me and makes me happy. I try to give my best every day.
The pandemic was tough on me, personally and professionally; not unlike the entire industry. I had lost my confidence and was losing my passion. It took six months after the pandemic to put myself together and restart my journey. Today, I am not only emotionally stronger but also have bigger dreams for my future. I hope to excel in my art and to pass on the knowledge. I’m grateful to Stress Professional for allowing me to take a step closer to realising my dreams.
How has the competition shaped you as a person?
Participating in the competition has taught me that following your passion and staying committed to it with all your sincerity and hard work definitely pays off. I have participated in many national and international hair styling events and competitions. I have met many celebrities, hair stylists, and experts, and learned a lot from all of them. Streax Professional Times Hairstyle Icon not only provided me with a platform to showcase my art but also helped me discover my hidden talents. I discovered how well the hairstyles could be achieved using the Streax Professional products. Mentors like Vipul Chudasama, Joakim Roos, Yolly Ten Koppel and Savio John Pereira honed my skills and helped me come out as a winner at the competition. The process has made me a better artist. I shall always remain thankful for their guidance and mentorship.
