A well-defined blush is the backbone of any makeup look, even the ‘no makeup’ look. Striking a delicate balance of colour, pigmentation, and even shape, everything matters. Over time, every artist and enthusiast finds the process that fits them best. But, if you are looking for something new to try, here is a glance at the L-shaped blush hack that is going viral on social media.

It is actually an old technique that has been in use for some years. However, with the social media boom, this has now returned to the fore with a bang. This trick has truly proved its value and now, there is a whole new interest in the same. While people are loving it, if you, too, want to give it a shot, here’s a breakdown:

What is the L-shaped blush technique?

This technique is a simple way of applying blush that aims to accentuate the cheekbones by providing a natural contour via blush, ultimately giving a lift to the face. While following this technique, one must apply the blush in the shape of ‘L’ on the temples and cheekbones.

Everyone on the internet is highly in awe of this technique owing to the final finish. Rather than resulting in the apple of the cheeks full of blush, it gives a natural glow across the face. Since the blush is applied outwards and upwards, it automatically gives a chiselled, uplifted look, that’s fresher and younger.

The Step-by-Step Guide

Prep Up the Base

Moisturise your face well. Prepare the base of the makeup with the right primer, foundation, and concealer as usual. This will provide a smooth base for applying the blush.

Identify the L Shape

Visualise an ‘L’ on the face. Simply use your index finger and thumb, stretched out, forming an ‘L’ on your face. Place the tip of the thumb just below the nose and the index finger is stretched upwards. Basically, the vertical line of this ‘L’ goes from the top of the cheekbone towards the temple. On the other hand, the horizontal line runs right under the cheekbone, unparallel to the jawline.

Apply the Blush

Now, as the ‘L’ shape has been identified. First, apply the blush from the cheekbone’s top and apply it upwards towards the temple: this is across the vertical line. Next, apply the blush across the horizontal line: apply it below the cheekbone, parallel to the jawline.

Be mindful to use light strokes and to build up colour gradually. Don’t use too much product at once, making the blush deeper is easier with layering. However, lightening it can be daunting.

Blend, Blend, Blend

Blend the blush thoroughly to achieve a smooth finish without any sharp lines. Be sure to blend the edges into a smooth, soft, and natural finish.

Set it Up

Finally, lock up the blush with a transparent setting powder or a setting spray, This will ensure that it stays longer and doesn’t budge.
