Bollywood heartthrob Vaani Kapoor in an exclusive interaction with Kanishka Ramchandani at the launch of Hue Magic by Streax Professional.
Tell me about your experience with hair colour. What does hair colour mean to Vaani Kapoor?
My first hair colour was when I was in school. My mother was experimenting and coloured my hair at home. I also remember going to not-so-fancy salons back in the day.
Hair colour makes you feel like you have a new personality altogether. I feel hair does play a huge part in bringing out your personality and what you believe and what you’re feeling from within, out there for the world to see. It’s an extension of your personality.
So yeah, I’ve been colouring my hair since forever.
Does it make you feel like a rebel?
No, it makes me feel excited.
It makes me feel, you know, when you want to uplift your mood. It’s a great mood uplifter somehow because you feel like there’s a whole new you that can be reinvented or redefined. It helps you redefine your ways and how you feel and how you want to emote and express yourself and put yourself out there in the world.
In terms of hair colour, which is your favourite on-screen look?
I think I was the most experimental in Befikre with the ginger burnt orange hair. That was my most experimental hair colour that I’d done for a film. That’s because the girl was a lot more flamboyant, unlike me. A lot more cooler, unlike me! Yeah, I think it has to be that one.
Tell us about association between Vaani Kapoor and Streax Professional.
It’s been remarkable. It’s been a long journey and I hope to continue it further. And it’s been lovely. They’ve been very supportive and they’ve been very innovative in their ways.
I like the fact that they also like to educate their salon partners – hold their hand and gradually take them forward as they move forward into the market and business.
What do you look for in a brand when you decide to endorse it?
I believe in quality. Even personally, the decisions that I make in terms of my own work, I do tend to pay a lot of attention to the quality of the product instead of the quantity. And I believe Streax Professional also has a similar core value, which is very synchronised to my belief system.
How important are salon services for you?
Nowadays, salons have become a necessity more than a treat. I now don’t walk into a salon for a luxurious hair spa. It’s more like, “help me, my hair is damaged.” Because every other day you’re doing curling, tonging, and the hair is getting burnt and damaged.
With the kind of lifestyle that we have to live, and the kind of roughness that the hair goes over a course of time. I like to do home remedies, but you need professionals to look into the texture and to maintain and retain the goodness in your hair.
