Vipul Chudasama Decodes Saga: A New Era of Bridal Hairstyling

As IKONIC Professional launched its bridal hair collection, Saga, Vidhi Arya from Professional Beauty India spoke to Vipul Chudasama, Ikonic Creative Director, to understand the vision, process, and challenges behind the collection.

IKONIC Professional has launched Saga, a bridal hair collection designed for the modern Indian bride. Moving away from one traditional look, the collection focuses on individuality and changing bridal expectations. Saga treats hair as a crucial part of the bride’s personal story. Each style in the collection showcases different moods and ceremonies throughout the wedding journey.

The collection reflects weddings as a series of emotional moments, where every hairstyle becomes a chapter. Rooted in Indian traditions yet inspired by global trends, the collection blends familiar elements with a clean, contemporary finish. It includes sculpted updos, textured buns, fusion braids, soft waves, and sleek styles. Each style is designed to stay intact through long hours while complementing the bride without overpowering her look.

Let’s learn more about what went behind the scenes to create this collection from Vipul Chudasama – Ikonic Creative Director.

Every bridal collection has a visual point of view. What was the creative starting point for Saga, and how did the concept evolve from idea to the final six looks?

“Saga was envisioned as a modern bridal narrative, an ode to the evolving Indian bride who honors tradition yet expresses her individuality with confidence. The starting point was storytelling. We didn’t want to create just hairstyles, but moments within a bride’s journey. Each of the six looks represents a distinct emotion, strength, softness, celebration, while staying rooted in Indian aesthetics. The evolution from concept to execution was about refining these emotions into wearable forms through texture, structure, and finish.”

While building the collection, how did you balance editorial creativity with real-world wearability for brides who will wear the style for long hours? Especially when these hairstyles need to work with heavy jewellery, dupattas, veils, and outfit changes.

“The key was designing with intention. While the SAGA collection has a strong editorial aesthetic, every hairstyle was engineered keeping durability and comfort in mind. The structure of each look ensures it can support traditional bridal elements like dupattas, veils, and heavy jewellery without compromising shape. We focused on secure foundations, adaptable styling, and lightweight structuring techniques so the bride can move, change outfits, and stay comfortable for long hours. The goal was to create styles that look aspirational in imagery but remain practical in real wedding scenarios.”

Which hairstyle took the most experimentation to finally come to life? Did you face any challenges in general to create unique looks and yet a cohesive collection?

“One of the more intricate looks required extensive experimentation, especially in achieving the right balance between structure and softness. Creating a hairstyle that looks detailed yet effortless often involves multiple trials to perfect texture, volume, and hold. A key challenge overall was maintaining individuality in each look while ensuring the collection felt cohesive. This was addressed by keeping a consistent design language, clean finishes, intentional detailing, and a modern interpretation of tradition—across all six styles.”

From a professional stylist’s point of view, what techniques or tools played a key role in achieving the shapes and finishes seen in the Saga collection?

“Precision sectioning, strong foundational styling, and controlled texturising were crucial techniques throughout the collection. The focus was on building structure first and then refining the surface for a polished finish. In terms of tools, high-performance styling tools that offer consistent heat control and smooth finishing played a significant role. Additionally, the right combination of prepping tools and finishing brushes ensured longevity without making the hair feel stiff.”

Do you see bridal hairstyling moving towards more personalised looks rather than one dominant trend? What’s your take towards upcoming trends?

“Bridal hairstyling is definitely moving towards personalisation. Today’s brides are more aware, experimental, and keen to reflect their personality rather than follow a single trend. Upcoming trends will focus on versatility, texture, and individuality, styles that can transition across functions while still feeling unique. We’ll also see a blend of cultural influences, softer structures, and more natural-looking finishes becoming increasingly popular.”

6. If there is one styling principle or takeaway you would want salon professionals to learn from the Saga collection, what would it be?

The most important takeaway is to design with both vision and purpose. A great bridal hairstyle is not just about how it looks, but how it performs, how well it holds, adapts, and complements the bride’s overall persona.

Understanding balance between structure and softness, creativity and practicality is what elevates a stylist’s work from good to exceptional.”
