Women entrepreneurs in beauty sphere share their vision and values on Women’s Day

The beauty industry is witnessing a powerful transformation, driven by a new wave of women entrepreneurs who are reshaping the landscape with innovation, resilience, and purpose. These trailblazers are not just creating brands — they are building legacies rooted in authenticity, sustainability and inclusivity.

On this International Women’s Day, we celebrate the voices of India’s remarkable women entrepreneurs in beauty as they share the values they wish to pass on to the next generation. Their journeys, insights and unwavering commitment to excellence serve as an inspiration for every woman aspiring to make her mark in the industry.

Here’s what women entrepreneurs in the beauty realm have to say about leaving a legacy for the next generation:

Uttara Talapatra, Founder, Magical Blends

“Beauty is at the very core of the human condition. Right from the efforts of cave-people to decorate and anoint their bodies, to the current fascination of consumers with skin, hair and make-up! But more than anything, it has always been a medium of self-expression. Beauty explorations give consumers the right to express who they are, and helps them to be viewed in a certain way.

This is the primary facet of beauty on which women entrepreneurs, and indeed all entrepreneurs in the beauty domain must focus on. It can manifest as different principles like inclusivity, naturalness or indeed all-out shock value. But it is the self-expression and freedom of consumers that needs to be strengthened and empowered, so they find their voice in today’s age of personalisation. Otherwise, there will be no differentiation and the brand will just be a me-too.

In this respect, women entrepreneurs perhaps have a slight edge as they instinctively understand the concepts and nuances of beauty better than their male counterparts. The key would be to leverage on the same and build lasting brands.”

Ishita Misra, Co-founder and Creative Director, Fonzie Folksy

“For me, it’s about crafting experiences that honour individuality and celebrate authenticity, not just creating a product. To the next generation of women entrepreneurs, resilience will be your greatest asset.

While building Fonzie Folksy, I faced numerous challenges before finding the right partners to support my vision of luxury fragrances. In a market like India, premium pricing raised many questions, but I stayed confident in my mission.

My advice focuses on embracing innovation, trusting yourself, and believing in your product. Being well-read—whether through formal education or independent research—is key. It gives you credibility, confidence in what you’re creating, and is evident in every conversation with your team, partners, and customers.

The beauty industry is saturated, but there’s always room for brands with a genuine purpose. Learn to distinguish constructive feedback from noise, and let your unique perspective lead the way. Sustainability is also crucial – creating a brand that is mindful of its impact resonates with today’s consumers.
Finally, build a community, not just a customer base. Successful entrepreneurs understand that growth is a collective journey, cultivated through mentorship, collaboration, and lifting others as you rise. The path won’t be linear, but persistence paired with passion creates magic and an unstoppable journey.”

Radhika Mukhija, Founder, The Bare Bar

“When I started The Bare Bar in 2020, I was driven by more than just a love for sustainable beauty—I wanted to create something that stood for conscious living, authenticity, and the power of women supporting women. Now, as I see a new wave of women entrepreneurs stepping into the beauty space, my heart swells with pride.

If there’s one thing I wish to pass on, it’s this: build with purpose, lead with kindness, and never compromise on your values. The beauty industry doesn’t need more noise; it needs more intention. Whether it’s championing ethical sourcing, creating sustainable packaging, or fostering a work culture that uplifts, always let integrity guide you.

And remember—there’s room for all of us. Collaboration will always take you further than competition. Surround yourself with people who believe in your vision, and never be afraid to take up space. The world needs your ideas, your passion, and your light. Keep going.”

Divya Malpani, Founder & CEO, Skinvest

“As a founder navigating the evolving landscape of beauty entrepreneurship, I believe that sustainable growth should always take precedence over vanity metrics. Building a business isn’t about burning cash for short-term wins but ensuring profitability and longevity. Break-even and profitability should be goals from day one, not afterthoughts.

Strong inventory management is critical—being ‘sold out’ isn’t a victory if it means mismanaged stock. Growth should be celebrated with preparation, not reactive scrambling.

Time is money, and urgency matters. Structuring the day with clear priorities ensures consistent momentum. And while speed is important, consistency in branding is just as crucial—recollection and trust take time to build, but only if messaging stays clear and unwavering.

Most importantly, retention is everything. Acquiring customers is step one, but keeping them engaged and loyal is where true success lies. The next generation of beauty entrepreneurs should focus on building brands that people come back to, not just try once.”

Arya Khattiwala, Founder, Skin Deli

“To every woman dreaming of building her own beauty brand – do it, but do it your way. Perfection is overrated, but never underestimate the power of a strong foundation. At Skin Deli, we strive to improve everyday but we take pride in building a solid foundation in R&D and our people.

When I started Skin Deli, I wanted to create skincare that felt like home, rooted in Ayurveda.

But here is what I learned along the way: success is not about working 24/7 or ticking every box. It is about doing what fulfils you. Some days, that means chasing goals, and other days, it means sitting with your friends and family, and taking in things that truly make you happy.

Most importantly, have fun with it. Hard work pays off, but joy is what keeps you going. The beauty industry needs more fearless women, you can be the one if you’re authentic and truly passionate about beauty.”

Renu Kant Envi salons, Founder

“The empowerment of the next generation of female entrepreneurs in the beauty industry relies solely on simple skills. It is to instil the fundamental values that guide their travels. At Envi Salons, we believe in promoting a culture of reliability and integrity. I want to transmit the importance of a real connection with customers and the unshakable pursuit of excellence.

Resilience is essential. The beauty industry is dynamic and problems are inevitable. Teach young women to use failure as a learning possibility and become stronger. The ability to predict and respond to development trends is extremely important.

Furthermore, I would like to emphasize the power of cooperation and mentoring. Building a supportive network is essential for growth. Share knowledge, uplift others, and celebrate collective success.

Finally, I want them to understand this success of passion. You never lose sight of your love for crafts and your desire to have a great influence. Supporting these values, we can develop a generation of female entrepreneurs who redirect beauty landscapes.”

Dr Suyomi Shah, MD Dermatologist and Formulator at Dr. Su

“To the next generation of women entrepreneurs in beauty, my biggest and the most important advice is – Let your brand be born out of the passion to solve real problems and not the desire to jump on the bandwagon and follow short lived trends.

The beauty industry is already so cluttered with everyone chasing trends that we tend to forget what the consumers really want. Today’s consumers are well informed buyers. They want real solutions. They will ask 100 Qs before investing in any new product. Not because your product may be too expensive, but simply because they want to know what’s really inside it.

When I started my journey, I focused on non-sponsored, easy to understand content, and evidence-based formulations because I wanted to build a brand that people could trust. This trust is what drives loyalty and long-term success. Stay consistent, embrace feedback and build a brand where consumers feel seen and heard. People believe in people, so when you create something that truly helps others, success will follow.” says Dr Suyomi Shah

As these visionary women reveal, success in the beauty industry is not just about launching a product—it’s about building with purpose, fostering connections, and staying true to one’s values.

On this Women’s Day, we applaud the courage, creativity and commitment of these entrepreneurs. Their stories remind us that the beauty industry thrives not just on trends, but on passion, perseverance and the relentless pursuit of excellence.
