How do you stay ahead of global trends while catering to Indian clients?
“Catering to Indian clients requires a blend of continuous learning, adaptability, and a deep understanding of local preferences while keeping an eye on global barbering trends. It’s important to learn and experiment with global techniques but modify them with your own craft and ideas based on the client’s hair type. Styles like fades, undercuts, or textured haircuts are becoming popular in India, but the techniques can vary from place to place.”
Do you have a signature style or technique that sets you apart from other barbers?
“I always do a little chit-chat with my clients before styling. I try to understand their requirements, and then I try to deliver out of the box solutions. I prefer doing customised styles as per their face shape and hair texture, without disturbing their routine comfort. All so that they can embrace their new looks with minimalist efforts.”
Why do you feel that participating in various awards is important for barbers today? Is there a tip you’d like to give the rising stars in this regard?
“Oh! It’s very important for attaining recognition and credibility. It is a great tool to create trust with clients. So, definitely, everyone must try to participate. My tip for all the rising stars is to invest your time in refining technique and learning new styles. Focus on building a strong relationship with clients through your craft and innovation.”
What’s your current favourite hair product and how should every guy be using it?
“Morrocanoil, Bedhead Matte Separation Wax, and Bedhead Masterpiece hair spray are my current favourites. Morrocanoil gives moisture and a frizz-free effect to the hair. Bedhead Matt Separation Wax for a messy look with added volume and defined waves. Lastly, Bedhead Masterpiece hair spray for instant hold with shine.
These are very easy to apply. After washing, towel dry your hair, and apply 1-2 drops of Morrocanoil. Avoid roots to prevent greasiness, blow dry your hair, then apply a pinch of Bedhead Matte wax evenly, and now style your hair. You can also use a hair dryer. Once you’ve achieved the desired look, lock it in with a spray.”
If you were to open a barber school, what’s the first lesson you’d teach your students?
“Make yourself perfect in basic haircuts and styling techniques that build a strong foundation for your future.”
